Who do you work with?
We work primarily with veterans, ex-serving military personnel, and first responders, as well as private clients presenting with a broad range of psychological concerns. We welcome DVA-funded, Medicare, and private clients.
Do you offer telehealth?
Yes. All sessions are conducted via telehealth, meaning you can access support from anywhere in Australia without the need to travel. You will need a private space, a stable internet connection, and a device with a camera and microphone.
How do I make an appointment?
You can get in touch via the contact form on this website to enquire about availability or to book an initial appointment, or email hello@insightfulmindsconsulting.com.au. Referrals are welcome from GPs, DVA, and other health providers, and self-referrals are also accepted for private clients.
Do I need a referral?
A referral is not required for private clients. If you would like to access sessions under a Medicare Mental Health Care Plan, you will need a referral from your GP. DVA-funded clients will need a DVA D0904 referral from their GP. If you are unsure, get in touch and we can help point you in the right direction.
What does a first session look like?
The first session is an opportunity to get to know each other, discuss what has brought you to psychology, and begin to understand your goals. We will ask about your history, current challenges, and what you are hoping to get out of the process. There is no expectation to share more than you are comfortable with, and the pace is always guided by you.
What can I expect from sessions?
Sessions are practical and structured — you can expect clear goal-setting, regular check-ins on progress, and take-home strategies to work on between appointments. We place strong emphasis on helping clients understand the 'why' behind their experiences, so that the work makes sense and feels relevant to everyday life.
How long does therapy take?
This varies depending on the presenting issues, goals, and individual circumstances. Some clients benefit from a short, focused course of sessions, while others engage in longer-term support. We work collaboratively with you to regularly review progress and adjust the plan as needed.
What approaches do you use?
We draw on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, mindfulness-based strategies, and Motivational Interviewing, adapting our approach to suit each individual's needs, goals, and pace.
Is what I share confidential?
Yes. Everything discussed in sessions is confidential, with a small number of legal and ethical exceptions — for example, if there is a risk of serious harm to yourself or others, or if records are subpoenaed by a court. We will explain the limits of confidentiality in your first session.
What if I am in crisis?
We are not a crisis service. If you are in immediate danger or require urgent support, please contact Lifeline on 13 11 14, the Veterans and Veterans Families Counselling Service (VVCS) on 1800 011 046, or present to your nearest emergency department.
What are your fees?
Please get in touch directly to discuss current fees, DVA entitlements, and Medicare rebate information.
